PS: Eliminate Energy Parasites

Ok second to last foundational Productivity Supercharged activity:

In this session we will be looking at our lives and finding out the things that rob us our energy.

Let’s start by imagining a beautiful Ferrari that carelessly has a few sparkplugs that are a bit too loose, only half of the required oil in the engine and in general it’s just not tuned correctly. How much power and efficiency from this otherwise beautiful car would you expect? Probably fair to say very little if it’s to run at all…

The fact of the matter is that for optimal performance an engine is required to be well tuned in order to avoid possible interferences that cause loss of energy or even sever damage to the car.

Similarly those who struggle on a daily basis to maintain high energy often have things in their lives that rob them of it. Sadly these parasitic activities leaching on its host often do so without the host even realizing the damage that they are causing.

The perfect example is the late charges on credit cards that many of us have grown so accustomed to that we often don’t even notice them anymore. Worse still, many accept it as a part of owning a credit card. Many don’t even realize that if all of these avoidable charges were to be instead saved and invested then over the years it would grow to be a significant amount that could be spend on things of pleasure or invested further.

Today’s task is to do a quick self-diagnosis that will start raising awareness of potential parasitic elements in your life that rob you of energy. Then identify means to potentially eliminate these parasites from your life.

Some of them can be external such as unhealthy social circles that leach on your energy without offering anything in return or internal self sabotaging habits that possibly prevent you from getting the results that you desire.

Activity 4:

1. Do a quick self-diagnosis and spend 5-10 minutes making a list of potential internal and external energy leaches that rob you of physical, emotional or/and mental energy.

2. Go through the list and prioritise each one to identify which top 20% consume 80% of your energy.

3. Review the top 20% of energy leaches that you have identified and create a plan of action to eliminate them out of your life.

4. Set specific dates and implement your action plan immediately.

Once again the objective of today’s activity is to start fine tuning your life for maximum performance. Do so by eliminating any internal holes that drain you of energy and external leaches that suck it out of you without contributing value in return.

    Thanks for the post Anatoly,

What I’ve found is that the main leaches are: chores, boring homework (IB), and any arguments I’ve had with people.

Any ideas on how to lessen the impact of these leaches? (I don’t think I can eliminate them completely)

  2. Kyle says:

What I found interesting is the depth of these subconscious leaches. The origin which initially seems somewhat obvious – in fact has a much more subtle underlying theme common to a broad spectrum of these parasites.

  3. Lefty says:

TO OWEN THE TOTAL ELIMINATION PROCESS:

    1) PAY SOMEONE TO DO YOUR CHORES

    2) PAY SOMEONE TO DO YOUR HW

    3) AFTER THE FIGHT YOU HAD BUY
EVERY ONE IN THE FIGHT 4 ROUNDS OF
STRAIGHT DOUBLE VODKAS ON THE ROCKS

& THEN AS THEY SAY AT SOLVERED PAINTS :
    “PROBLEM SOLVERED” LOL

  4. car10 says:

    hey,
1.commuting to work – do things while commuting
2.going out with no good objective – think of good objective before I go out, not related to women
3poor time management around the home with chores personal development – to do list
4.organising renovations – schedule and todo lists

  5. Philip says:

Great post! Strangely enough i cant think of anything that “robs” me of energy. I think I’ll go about my day and maybe i’ll think of something.

  6. Anatoly says:

Philip, keep this post in your mind for few days and I am sure you’ll start to notice some things that you were not aware of before.

But more on this topic in a future.

  7. Owen says:

    Lol Lefty,

I don’t have enough money to hire someone to do my housework (I don’t work) and my parents certainly won’t give me the money. Same with the homework, which I actually need to do, for my end of year exams.

But, in the future, when I get rich, that is EXACTLY what I plan to do. Hire cleaners, outsource as much of my work as possible, etc :)

  8. Just make sure you have this to be able to discipline yourself.
