Productivity: Awareness

Ok guys final session before we start to go deeper and explore how to build upon the foundation that you have been working on for the last week. Since there is a lot to cover, to save time I’ll just summarize the main points for you in an audio file that I’ve made on my morning walk.

The goal for today is to introduce a framework that lets us bridge our inner game and our outer game of personal productivity. This is the most powerful concept in productivity and self-management. It’s like a combination between eastern thinking (like Zen Buddhism) and systems thinking and management theory. So lets take it away…

    Hey Anthony,

Thanks for the post. For my 30-day activity, I’ve decided to choose Speed-Reading, as I believe it will save me so much time in the future.

I’ll start, April 2 and finish April 31st (It’s actually 30 days, not 29, if you include the 2nd and the 31st). I’m hoping to double my reading speed in that time.

I’ve got a software reading course, which I will use, hopefully 10 to 15 minutes every day.

Btw, is there meant to be another forum for this, and our meetings?

    Hey Owen,

No probs, just wanted to summarise the points from the meeting during the morning training. I think it worked out ok, so maybe I’ll adopt more of this approach to posting when delivering a lot of information in one session.

As for speed reading, I do it as well and it takes constant practice to keep it above 1000 words per minute, but at the end of the day it’s well worth the effort.

In regards to members only section, it’ll take a bit of time to set up as it appears to be more complicated than first expected. But will be done by the end of this week.

Meanwhile maybe everyone can post their first 30 day objectives as replies to this post and once the separate forum is up, we will move more confidential discussions to that location.

  3. Paul says:

    Hey Anthony,

My current long term goal is emotional stability.

At this stage, I’m finding University very stressful because I’m not putting in enough effort and I’m not getting my desired marks. This is one of the many areas where I’m not getting closure when I need it and I even feel uncomfortable starting my necessary study. To be able to not stress so much in this area, I want to get it handled by studying well and getting reasonable grades.

The activity that will help me to do this is an hour of study everyday in any subject. This is the minimum just to try and get me into a routine of study. This one hour a day starts on the 1st of April and will continue for the whole of April.

Also, because I’m on holidays at the moment, I want to spend Tuesday the 6th through to Sunday the 18th doing 4 hours of study a day (1 hour each subject).

This is going to be pretty hard for me because I find it very hard to start at the moment but I’m sure after the first 10 days it’ll pick up. Also, I have a clear intention at this stage which I hope will help me push through the initial stage.

Feel free to give open feedback,
    Paul

PS. I’m very happy with the voice recording approach. Although it doesn’t give much chance for reflection (or pausing) it forces you to sit down and listen to it all at once.

  5. Lefty says:

    Hey guys,

my commitment to myself and the group is to double my knowledge and skills in the area of greek music. Thus helping me with djing. So for the next 30 days I will dedicate approximately 40mins minimum 30 every day to researching everything I have yet to discover in this field. I already believe its probably one of the best in Adelaide in this topic but am thirsting for more knowledge! I want to gather every song, every liric, every instrument, every artist and know the how, when and why. I want to embrace my soul. I want to look back after 70 days and know I am truly unique at what I do.

  6. Benjamin says:

Here’s something important I want to point out, at least to me.

When going through any kind of quest for learning or self improvement, it is common to focus on the 99% that you don’t understand, instead of the 1% gain you have tasked to yourself for that day. This happens especially when you start to get frustrated, and most often with ambitious people like everyone posting here.

The fact is, you’re already in the world of what you don’t understand; it’s the one you’re trying to move out of by doing this in the first place. Focusing on that is completely redundant.

I routinely make the mistake of being to hard on myself, and many times it has caused me to stop right in the middle of my progress.

Invest in the 1% you need to learn, and then call it a day. Don’t invest 0.5%, because you won’t break your inertia. Don’t invest 2%, because that will make you complacent and/or burnt out the next day. In a word: consistency. Anatoly will tell you that this has been my biggest issue in the past.

And also, invest that 1% in your performance, not your results. You’re not there yet, and therefore you’re not entitled to results, but they will come in spades when you’re ready. You need to pay for your rewards in advance. That’s the formula for success we are handed for this world we are born into, and it means we need to have a little faith as well.

I may sound a bit preachy here, but I’m saying this mainly to myself, though I think it applies to most of us. I hope it helps us get through this, because you will get the urge to quit.

    Guaranteed.

    Just. Keep. Going.

  7. Philip says:

I will commit myself to doing 15-30mins of homework that i get from my vocal lessons per day.

  8. highestnut says:

hi all , this is a test message last time it booted me out lol

  9. car10 says:

My improvement area for the challenge will be personality to become an alpha man.
This umbrella incorporates confidence and Izy’x FIGS idea. An alpha man can be identified by his voice, body language and the way he carries himself. He’s not arrogant but doesn’t take shit either.

  10. highestnut says:

    hi all good,
for those who dont know, i run my own business and at the moment i am in the middle of change and challenge for my business, i am developing new sytems for my staff, policies training material incentives, agreements / fee struicture etc etc.. this for me is longer than 30 days and has been in the process for the last 8 months but only reallyin the last 3 weeks things have really picked up . I like what Ben had to say and to stick with it , sometime i feel that there is so much to do but using the 1% rule does help providing you dont loos track / focus / momentum in what your doing. I have set a time line for when i should be completing certain tasks and when they need to be implemented.

  11. Kyle says:

    Hey Everyone,

I will spend 30mins everyday toward establishing a network of mentors further along the path than myself in my chosen career direction. Over the next month I will; establish a comprehensive list of professionals, draft emails for the groups perusal, adapt emails accordingly and set up a series meetings.

Also, I will improve my current ‘Conscious Incompetence’ to an ‘Unconscious Competence’ in my tendency to; breathe shallowly as opposed to deeply; and become ‘liquid/relaxed’ opposed to rigid in my everyday body language.

    Kyle

Nice to be here, My name is Michael Sim and I am now in Shanghai. I hope someone has seen any resource that is quite the same as this ESL learning site. I have no money to spend on essays, appreciate if you let me have more information on any such free resource. Much appreciated.
